Ben and I have been in Arkansas for about five weeks now. We haven't been in Arkansas this length of time in several years, so it has been fun getting to catch up with so many familiar faces and visit many of our favorite places. I began a new contract at the beginning of January and it is working out well. Living with our friend Jessica has also been super fun (but we knew it would be :)) We have already shared lots of meals, movies, and memories!
Ben and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday with our family; many of whom we only see once a year. After the holidays, Ben and I started to pursue some personal goals we had set for this year. The first order of business was joining a local Crossfit gym. Wow! It has been an interesting journey. I fluctuate between feeling like I am going to die and feeling like a superhuman beast during each workout. Just imagine how much more intense this will be when I actually add weights to the 15lb. training bar. Haha! But seriously, we have been kicking some serious tail in our classes. It is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I'm pushing myself, so that must count for something ;) Another goal we decided to pursue this year was obtaining our open water scuba diving certification. A couple of weeks ago, we completed our coursework and the confined water diving course. When the weather warms up a bit, we will complete the open water diving course, which is the last step before completing our open water certification. Ben will be joining his sister, Anna, in Bali at the end of March for his first diving experience. We are also hoping to be in California for the summer, so we should be able to get in lots of diving then, too. So many exciting things have happened in January and I am so glad that we were around for all of them! During the first week of January, my Dad retired from UPS after 33 years of service. We had a fun time celebrating him over a meal and games at Dave and Buster's. I also reconnected with my former Bunco group a couple of weeks ago. It was so fun getting to play again with such a fun group of ladies. I have missed those monthly outings, for sure! One of the biggest, pleasant surprises mid-way through the month, was when my Mom married Terry Lee during an intimate ceremony surrounded by family at The Colonial Steakhouse. I am thrilled for them and I am so glad that Ben and I could be there for their special day. Ben has begun to start traveling again, so I was able to spend the past week with my Dad and Sonya while Ben was in Singapore on business. It was nice to catch up with them over dinner each evening after work. Over the course of this weekend, we enjoyed some much needed down time and celebrated my brother-in-law, Dagan's, birthday before Ben headed out to NYC this morning. We have already enjoyed visiting with several friends this month that we have not seen in a while and we will continue that trend this week before heading to Houston on Friday to celebrate the Super Bowl. Our time in Arkansas has already been filled with so much fun and the familiar feelings are so welcome after being away for so long. Looking ahead at the coming weeks, it appears as though our February will be filled with just as much excitement as January. While we aren't exploring new places every weekend during this time, we are creating just as many valuable memories in many places that we have known for so long. Cheers to 2017 and making new memories. May we continue to press on toward our goals and create new adventures. <3 Sunni
